Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about renting a unit at Family Storage Space, from holding one online to hurricane season.
Renting
How do I reserve a unit?
Pick a size on the Units page and reserve it online. We hold it for 72 hours with no payment, and our team calls to confirm. Nothing is charged until you move in.
See units and prices →Can I rent a unit and move in online?
Yes, for any size that shows “Move in online”. Pick your unit and sign your lease on your phone. Then bring your own lock (a disc or padlock) and a photo ID when you come.
What size unit do I need?
The size guide draws every size we rent to scale, with what fits in each. Not sure? Call or text us at (772) 337-9199 and describe what you’re storing, and our team will suggest a size.
Open the size guide →Do you rent space to businesses?
Yes. Our warehouse units give a business room for stock, tools and equipment. Business tenants also need a general liability insurance certificate; our team explains what it must show.
Access
When can I get to my unit?
Gate hours are Mon–Sun 5:30 am – 10:00 pm. You let yourself in with your own code at the keypad, which you get when you move in.
When can I reach your team?
Our team works off site and is available Mon–Sun 10:00 am – 5:00 pm by phone and text: call or text us at (772) 337-9199.
Location and hours →Can I drive up to my unit?
Yes, if you rent a first-floor drive-up unit: park at the door and unload straight in, with no stairs to climb.
Paying
How do I pay my rent?
Online payments are coming soon. For now, to pay, call or text us at (772) 337-9199.
When is rent due, and is there a late fee?
Your lease sets the due date and any late fee; our team will walk you through it.
Insurance
Do I need insurance?
The lease requires every tenant to insure what they store. At move-in a tenant picks a SafeLease protection plan ($14 a month for $2,000 of coverage, $19 a month for $3,000 or $29 a month for $5,000; the $14 plan is the standard) or shows their own renter's or homeowner's policy. Current tenants are on the $14 plan from November 1 unless they sent proof of their own policy, and can send proof any time to switch the plan off.
I’m renting for a business. What else do I need?
Business and commercial tenants also need a certificate of general liability insurance naming 4284 NE 7th Ave LLC d/b/a 1600 Family Storage Space as additional insured, with at least $1,000,000 each occurrence. Our team explains the details.
Storing
What can’t I store?
Nothing hazardous or flammable (such as fuel, propane, chemicals or fireworks), no food or anything perishable, nothing alive, and nothing illegal. Nobody may live or work in a unit. Your lease has the full list.
Do you have climate-controlled units?
Yes. Our climate-controlled units are indoors, out of the Florida heat: a good home for furniture, electronics, papers and photos. Each size on the Units page lists its features.
Hurricane season
How do I protect my things in hurricane season?
Hurricane season runs from June to November. Raise your things off the floor on pallets, keep anything irreplaceable in sealed plastic bins, and check that your insurance or the protection plan covers storm damage. Our team will let you know about any closures.
